"Good gamers reach incredible levels of virtuosity with their controllers (mouse,
gamepad etc.) that really compare to the virtuosity of, say, a pianist in some
cases." - Frank Barknecht

None Lives Forever, NLF, is a concept first person game, currently being implemented, using CrystalSpace. The map used is Bønestoppen.

It's made completely in XML and runs under CEL. All content is either made by developers or found on the Internet and is free under the GPL or similar liberal license.

When you enter NLF, you find yourself at Hageland, which is a little shop at the outskirts of Bønestoppen. Hageland has lots of things, from cars, buses, ski, bicycle to bombs and weapons. Pick what you like and explore NLF.

The center of this world is Castle Beauty, which is a modern castle at the top of Bønestoppen, Bergen. This is a real place that is recreated in 3d, so when you reach the surface, pretty much everything is according to how it actually looks there.

Internal security at Castle Beauty is handled by the Castle Beauty Marshal Service.

To learn more about Bønestoppen, please visit Bønestoppen on wikipedia.

The primary map being developed is Bønestoppen and all efforts will focus on one map only. NLF will be able to run any map that people make, however.

[edit] Rationale

None lives forever grew out of frustration. I've played FPS games since early 1990's and I've never come across a game that satisfies my needs.

NLF is a very fast paced game. You move fast and even if you're hit or whatever, you don't loose your speed.

NLF will not have any restrictions on weapons. You start out with everything you want, from jackhammers, tripmines and RPGs' to timer bombs, etc. The idea is that you have no reason to claim that you didn't have good enough weapons. The point of NLF is thinking and moving. When your opponents is armed to the teeth, you really have to think and plan to succeed.

You also don't loose time switching weapons; this happens instantly.

NLF also focus on eye candy. It is a realistic looking game and very little compromise will be done for old graphics processors or computers. If it ain't looking crystal clear; I ain't playin' it.

NLF does have advanced weapons, but nothing too sci-fi'ish. There'll be no lasers and stuff.

NLF is a serious game for adults.

NLF will allow serious movements, like salto and complex martial arts moves. It will take time to learn and master, but that's the way I like it. If you want to beat me, you better have skill, boy;).

[edit] Weapons

JackHammer - The modified belt fed JackHammer can also shoot guided rocket propelled MPED (Multi Purpose Explosion Device) and throw flames.

The chamber is fed directly with MPEDs' and gasoline from the backpack.

Bombs include remote configurable bombs that can be configured for laser trip mine, approximation mine, time bomb, impact bomb (default). Each mine has its own configurable IP address and hostname.

The multi purpose explosion device will stick to anything if not configured to detonate on impact.

When glued to a wall, the laser will always be perpendicular to the wall.

[edit] Explore

NLF is very big, with huge underground structures. There are many houses and many larger buildings. To get from one place to another, you probably need a car or use the monorail system.

There are no clocks and you can do whatever you like. The only purpose of NLF is to have fun and survive. People can join forces and seize different buildings.

NLF focus on skill. There is no need to pick up ammunition frequently and there is no need to reload or even change weapon. This means that you have every means to succeed and it all depends on your skill to move around and your tactic and intelligence.

You move very fast in NLF, considering you're carrying 50kg of equipment. Maximum run speed is 40km/h; a little more than the fastest running speed of man.

You can have an account on the server; keeping the deaths/kills statistics.

Because of all the armor you're able to wear, you can last very long in a fight. When you die, you go in to observer mode, able to fly around invisible and look at other participants; you may respawn at Hageland.

Everything is recorded, so when you die, you are able to replay everything that happened and you can fly around looking at what caused you to die. You may request any time slice from the server and look at other people and their tactics. You can also turn on coloring of bullet paths and slow the speed down, so you can see clearly how you died.
